Terms of Service
Last updated: September 12, 2026 · Version 2026-09-12
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using Coceipt (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. What the Service does — and does not do
Coceipt is a tool for tracking receipts and expenses, splitting shared costs with other people, and organizing spending information that may be relevant at tax time.
The Service is not accounting, tax, or legal advice. Categorization, tax-relevance flags, currency conversion, and data extracted from receipt images by AI are provided as a convenience and may be incomplete or wrong. Marking a source as “tracked for tax purposes” records your intent to consider those expenses at tax time; it is not a determination that they are deductible. You are solely responsible for checking anything you rely on for a tax filing, an accounting record, or any other purpose.
3. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for everything done through your account. If you think someone else has accessed it, tell us promptly at support@coceipt.com.
4. Subscriptions and billing
- Some features require a paid subscription. Billing is handled by RevenueCat.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the subscription page in your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
- Fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise.
- We may change pricing with 30 days’ notice to existing subscribers. Continuing to use a paid plan after that notice means you accept the new price.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the receipts, expense records, and other content you upload (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display it solely in order to run the Service — which includes sending receipt images to the AI provider named in our Privacy Policy so their details can be read.
You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of what you upload, and for having the right to share any receipt or expense data that involves other people.
6. Shared spaces and expense splitting
When you share a space with other people, they can see the expenses you add to it — amounts, descriptions, who paid, and any receipt images attached.
Balances showing who owes whom are informational only. The Service does not move money, does not verify that anyone has actually been repaid, and is not a payment processor. Settling up between you and other people is entirely your own responsibility.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use the Service to break the law, to upload content you have no right to, to attempt to access other people’s data, or to interfere with the operation of the Service or the infrastructure it runs on.
8. No warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure; that AI-extracted or automatically categorized data will be accurate or complete; that the Service will meet your requirements for tax filing, accounting, or any regulatory purpose; or that data will never be lost, corrupted, or become unavailable.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising from your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility. Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) CAD $50.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or obligations under privacy legislation.
10. Keeping your own copies
We take reasonable steps to safeguard your data, but you should keep your own copies of anything you need for a tax filing. Export your records periodically, and especially before a filing deadline. We are not liable for data loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, including failures at the third-party infrastructure providers the Service depends on.
11. Who processes your data
These providers process data on our behalf so the Service can function:
- Supabase — database hosting, file storage and authentication
- Vercel — application hosting
- OpenAI — reading receipt images to extract their details
- RevenueCat — subscription billing
- Resend — sending invite and notification email
We do not sell your personal information. See the Privacy Policy for detail.
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close an account for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or suspected fraudulent or abusive use. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings; what happens to your data afterwards is described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of Coceipt from claims arising out of your breach of these Terms, Your Content, or your misuse of shared-expense features involving other people.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Nothing in these Terms removes any right you have under consumer-protection legislation that cannot be waived by agreement.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. Each version carries a version number and date, shown at the top of this page. If a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email, and ask you to accept the new version before you keep using the features it affects.
